Gira emergency set

Calling for help in the bathroom and WC

The Gira emergency set ensures greater safety in bathrooms and WCs. Persons in need can pull the long pull-cord button to activate a signal light with buzzer outside of the bathroom unit, thereby quickly making others aware of their situation – even if they are lying on the floor and unable to stand up without assistance. The Gira emergency set complies with DIN standards 18040-1 and DIN VDE 0834 and can be extended with additional pull-cord and switch-off buttons. In addition, calls can be forwarded to other rooms and the system can be connected to an uninterruptible power supply. It can therefore be used in the most diverse range of properties, such as administrative buildings, department stores, swimming pools, schools, kindergartens, medical practices or private apartments. All components are integrated into the Gira design lines and are available in a diverse range of colours and materials – so they are guaranteed to match any interior.

Benefits

Matches the style of the design line

Whether they be classic white, exclusive colours or elegant materials such as glass, aluminium or walnut: all of the components within the Gira emergency set are integrated into the Gira design lines and are therefore available in a diverse range of design variants. This ensures that the Gira emergency set can be installed to match any interior. The easy-care frame variants in pure white glossy or cream white glossy are particularly well-suited to use in areas subject to stringent hygiene requirements.

Can be extended with additional pull-cord and switch-off buttons

The Gira emergency set consists of a call module, a power supply, a pull-cord button and a switch-off button. It can be optionally extended with additional pull-cord and switch-off buttons, e.g. for use in sanitary areas with multiple WC units. When installing additional devices, the maximum current consumption of 250 mA must not be exceeded.

Optional call forwarding to other rooms

The duty room unit (available separately) enables calls to be displayed in other rooms as well as being signalled in the hallway, e.g. in the reception of a public building or a medical practice. The green button marks a person’s presence, the yellow button suppresses the call module’s acoustic emergency signal for 20 seconds. Two duty room units can be connected to the Gira emergency set.

Equipment of buildings in accordance with the standards DIN 18040-1 and DIN VDE 0834

The standard DIN 18040-1 has been applied for the barrier-free furnishing of publicly-accessible buildings since October 2010. It specifies that accessible toilets must be equipped with an emergency call system that persons requiring assistance can use to alert others in case of an emergency. The Gira emergency set makes meeting this requirement easy. The Gira emergency set also complies with the VDE 0834 standard, which sets out the minimum requirements for call systems in hospitals, nursing homes and similar institutions.

Greater safety and quality of life at home

There is also growing interest in using the emergency set in private settings: an ever-increasing number of people wish to lead a long, independent life within their own four walls without having to compromise on increased safety standards. As falls most commonly occur in the bathroom, the Gira emergency set can make a valuable contribution to increasing safety and quality of life within people’s own homes.

System description and functions

Accessible WC

The pull-cord button must be mounted in such a way that it can be easily accessed by a person in need of help in the vicinity of the toilet. Ideally, the pull-cord button should also be accessible from the sink.

The call module provides a visual and, where necessary, an acoustic indication of emergency calls triggered by the pull-cord button, in the corridor in front of the WC.

The switch-off button is installed next to the door in the WC. Staff use this to deactivate the call when they enter the room. The power supply unit of the Gira emergency set ensures that the system is supplied with power.

Accessible WC with call forwarding by an optional duty room unit

In contrast to the adjacent example, in this example there is a spatial separation between toilet and washbasin. For this reason, a pull-cord button is installed in both areas to ensure that one of them can be reached by a person lying on the floor.

The call module provides a visual indication (red light) of calls triggered by the pull-cord button in the corridor, in front of the WC. At the same time, the call is also indicated visually (red LED) and acoustically (buzzer) on the duty room unit at the building’s reception desk.

The call can also be switched to the telephone system via a telephone dialler and forwarded to a third party, e.g. to a nursing service. The switch-off button is installed next to the door in the WC. Staff use this to cancel the call when they enter the room. The power supply unit of the Gira emergency set ensures that the system is supplied with power.
