If the dewpoint is determined separately indoors and outdoors, the calculated values can be used as a basis to make decision regarding ventilation for dehumidifying cellar rooms.
If the outer dewpoint is lower than the inner dewpoint, cellar windows can be opened, and the air exchange would result in dehumidification. In contrast, if the outer dewpoint is higher than the inner dewpoint in summer, the indoor humidity could not be reduced. In adverse conditions, the humidity indoors may even increase and possibly even cause mould to form.
