New warning symbol:
must be installed by a professional electrician

Reasons for the new warning symbol

The German Product Safety Law (ProdSG) requires a manufacturer to only bring “safe products” on to the market. This means not only safe when used, but also safe when installed. If it is to be expected that safety-related faults might occur during installation, the product must include corresponding safety information and instructions which are suited to the specialist knowledge and ability of the expected user. For many electrical installation products, these conditions cannot be fulfilled by providing detailed installation instructions for non-specialists, because the necessary technical knowledge cannot be communicated in a “blurb”. Therefore, warnings are given on the product that there are risks associated with the installation and that it must be carried out by a specialist.

Warning note on packaging

As the market surveillance authorities have been demanding corresponding operating instructions or warnings for some time now, in the interests of consumer protection, the associations ZVEH, DKE and ZVEI have developed the warning symbol “must be installed by a professional electrician” and standardised it as an IEC standard symbol. Gira follows the associations’ recommendation and prints the new symbol onto its product packaging, to warn non-specialists of the danger of incorrect installation.
