Gira KNX servo 3

New possibilities for smart room temperature control

The Gira KNX servo 3, which is powered by an electric motor, is used to control room temperatures for heating systems. The device operates extremely quietly and is suitable for use in connection with heaters, radiators, convectors, heating circuit distributors such as underfloor heating and other systems. The servo is mounted directly on a valve connection (M30 × 1.5) or on many commercially available valve bases, using a corresponding adapter. The special features of the Gira KNX servo 3 include an integrated room temperature sensor, intelligent time-switched valve flushing, and other convenient software functions.

Features:

  • Direct connection to KNX
  • Infinite valve adjustment
  • Maintenance-free operation
  • Variable analysis optionally as 1-bit switching function or 8-bit value
  • Intelligent timer-controlled valve flushing to prevent lime scale accumulation or jamming of valves
  • Operates with internal room temperature measurement/control or with external, sensed variables
  • Optional variable limitation

  • Automatic valve travel adjustment
  • Mechanical valve position display on valve head
  • Optional limit value monitoring
  • Optional locking of servo in two fixed positions
  • Operating mode of valve control (normal/inverted)
    can be parametrised
  • Binary input for connection of a zero-voltage operating device or a temperature sensor

Recording and controlling temperatures

Thanks to the integrated room temperature measurement and control, all you need to do is set your current desired temperature in the Gira KNX servo 3 for it to operate. Additionally, you can also connect the Gira remote sensor (order no.: 1493 00) as an external temperature sensor via an input interface. This allows the current room temperature either to be recorded solely via the external remote sensor or for a weighted average value to be formed using an internal temperature measurement and the remote sensor. If underfloor heating is being used, a temperature limit can be implemented via the remote sensor. Alternatively, the input interface can also be used as a KNX binary input, e.g. to interrogate a window contact.

Smart valve flushing

In order to avoid sticking valves, the Gira KNX servo 3 has a valve flushing function which is carried out regularly and as required and prevents calcification or sticking. The KNX servo 3 comes up with two different concepts for this purpose:

1. Cyclical valve flushing is launched automatically. A cycle time between 1 and 26 weeks can be specified via the ETS. If a time signal is available in the KNX system, valve flushing at night can also be suppressed in order to avoid possible nuisance, in which case the valve flushing will be postponed until the next morning. Unnecessary cyclical valve flushing, e.g. in winter, is avoided by monitoring the minimum valve strokes.

2. With the aid of smart cyclic valve flushing, a flushing process is only started automatically if a defined valve stroke has additionally not been completed for a certain period of time. Flushing processes across an entire valve stroke are therefore only started if they are really necessary. Unnecessary cyclical valve flushing, e.g. in winter, is therefore avoided.
