Heating, cooling – electrothermic servos efficiently controlled via KNX

Modern heating systems with convectors, radiators and underfloor heating, but also climate-controlled floors as well as heating and cooling ceilings are controlled via electrothermic servos. The Gira KNX heating actuator, 1-gang, is designed to integrate these servos into the building control via KNX. It controls the servos depending on KNX telegrams. With the Gira KNX heating actuator, 1-gang, Gira offers a variant for installation in a switch box (electronics box from Kaiser recommended). The Gira KNX heating actuator, 1-gang is equipped with three binary inputs. The outputs are connected via a flexible, approx. 20 cm long cable. The binary inputs and the KNX are connected via a 6-wire connection cable, approx. 30 cm in length, which can be extended to a maximum of five metres.

Heating output

  • Output, can be controlled by a correcting variable (1-bit or 1-byte)
  • Status feedback (1-bit or 1-byte) automatically or on read request
  • Valve control (open/closed while de-energised) can be parameterized
  • Summer or winter operation can be selected via an object
  • Cyclical monitoring of the correcting variable
  • Each output can be locked in a forced position (forced setting) and different values are possible for summer and winter operation
  • Behaviour in the event of bus voltage recovery or failure can be parametrised separately for each output
  • Overload or short-circuit message can be set via an object
  • Control of servos in switching operation or PWM operation
  • Protective function against jammed valve


  • Free assignment of the switching, dimming, blind and encoder functions to the inputs
  • Blocking object for blocking individual inputs
  • Behaviour when the bus voltage is restored can be parameterized separately for each input
  • Telegram rate limitation
  • Switching function: two independent switching objects are available for each input and can be enabled individually, command for leading and trailing edge can be set independently (ON, OFF, CHANGE, no reaction)
  • Dimming function: single and double-surface operation; time between dimming and switching and dimming increment can be set; telegram repetition and stop-telegram transmission possible
  • Blind function: command can be set with rising edge (no function, UP, DOWN, CHANGE); operating concept can be parameterized (Step - Move - Step or Move - Step); time between short and long-term operation can be set; slat adjustment time can be set
  • Encoder and light scene auxiliary unit function: edge (button as NO contact, button as NC contact, switch) and value with edge can be parameterized; value adjustment with button by pressing and holding button for encoder possible; light scene extension with memory function and saving of the scene without previously calling up is possible


Installation in a switch box (electronics box from Kaiser recommended), Kaiser order no.: 1068-02, hollow wall, Kaiser order no.: 9062-94, halogen-free, Kaiser order no.: 9062-74. VDE approval in accordance with EN 60669-1, EN 60669-2-1, EN 50428.

Planning tips

This device is a product of the KNX system and complies with the KNX guidelines. Detailed specialist knowledge acquired in KNX training courses is assumed for understanding. The functionality of the device is dependent upon software. Detailed information regarding software versions and their range of functions as well as the software itself can be found in the manufacturer's product database. KNX-certified software is used for the planning, installation and start-up of the device.
